The following resources are considered natural resources by the method: renewable and non renewable primary raw materials, area, flowing resources (e. g. geothermal energy, wind energy, tidal energy and solar energy), environmental media(water, soil, air) and ecosystems.<br />
<br />
The guidelines provide different approaches and assistances to develop strategies dealing with resource efficiency. Additionally they also show which stages of life are influenced by implementing certain mesures.<br />
<br />
To determine the quantitative use of resources the guidelines point out the following indicators: raw material indicators (VDI 4800 paper 2), energy indicators (VDI 4600) and indicators for ecosystem services (VDI 4800 paper 3).<br />
