About me / Places I've livedDimitris Mentis is a PhD candidate at the KTH division of Energy Systems Analysis. His work focuses on linking Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and energy systems models. Dimitris together with colleagues has developed an innovative Open Source Spatial Electrification Toolkit (OnSSET) in collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA), United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the World Bank Group and ABB. He has also focused on estimating and mapping technical potential of renewable energy resources in national and regional level through a complex GIS assessment, a research initiative supported by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Further, he has worked on assessing the climate land energy and water nexus in different scales; water desalination on island case studies in cooperation with the Hellenic Ministry Energy, Environment and Climate Change and the National Technical University of Athens, and transboundary river basins in cooperation with United Nations Economic Commission of Europe (UNECE). A special emphasis of his efforts lies on increasing the renewable energy penetration for present and future sustainable development in both developed and developing countries. Dimitris holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (NTUA) and an MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering (KTH).
