This is the wiki page for the upcoming 8th Workshop of the Open Energy Modelling Initiative, a grass-roots organization of modellers from various research institutes, universities and companies. The workshop will take place at ETH Zürich, Switzerland, from 6-8 June 2018.
The primary workshop location will be ETH Zürich's CHN building, a 5 minute walk from the Zurich main railway station and close to the city center.
This wiki page will continue to be updated with more information as the programme is developed. Do also sign up to the forum and mailing list where all things regarding open energy modelling are discussed.
About the workshop
The Openmod Workshops provide a forum for modellers to come together and discuss how to further the use of open data and open software tools in the energy modelling community. Topics range from exchanges about specific types of data (e.g. sources for open data on building stocks or distribution networks) to advocacy and outreach.
Only a small part of the workshop consists of prepared presentations. For the rest of the workshop, participants work together in breakout groups on specific topics. The topics are chosen by the participants themselves, so please get actively involved by suggesting topics! To get the most out of the workshop, it is suggested to consider in advance what you would like to discuss.
Breakout groups should have specific aims, which can be followed up after the workshop, e.g. improving the openmod wiki pages, lobbying a data-holder to change its licencing, improving educational tools, or outreach.

Getting there: The workshop location is at ETH Zürich's main campus, located a short walk from Zürich's main station.

Accommodation: Participants wishing to stay within 5 minutes walking distance of the workshop can book at Hotel Sunnehus or Hotel Leoneck. More information on hotels is available at the ETH Zurich housing office.

Participation
The openmod workshop is interactive and organised bottom-up through everybody's contributions. Here are three ways in which you can contribute:
- bring a poster to communicate your research, model, or data;
- give a lightning talk to teach others about an interesting tool, method or workflow, or to share an update about new developments in open science more broadly;
- propose and help organise a do-a-thon for us to work on together during the workshop.
